We all crave perfect skin and it seems like a non-stop challenge everyday #justwanttocry But there are some things you can do to improve your skin-care game depending on the type of skin you already have!

A lot of times we are actually using the wrong products or methods for our own skin type, you will probably fall into one of these categories (sensitive, dry or oily), if you don’t then you are perfect and we all want to be you…

Here’s what to avoid depending on your skin type.

Sensitive Skin

Sin 1: Changing Products Too Soon.

You want to avoid changing beauty products too soon after trying it for the first time. We all love to get ourselves nice new skin care products to try but we nearly always end up a little disappointed… What you find yourself doing almost instantly is looking for another brand or product! STOP.

Here’s Why: Your skin actually takes about 1 month to adjust to a new product so you do need to give it some time before you switch. You’re giving your sensitive skin too much of a beating! Many different ingredients at once can irritate your skin and just make it worse! + You also can’t be sure if the product really works well or not because you haven’t given your skin enough time to adjust to it!

If your skin feels very irritated from the start of using a new product then yes, do stop using it quickly before things get worse! If not, stick it out to see if things improve by the end of 1 month usage.

Sin 2: Complicated / Long Skin Care Rituals

You want to avoid many of these complex routines which involve you doing a million different things to your skin. Keep it simple and your sensitive skin will thank you!

Look on the bottles to find “fragrance free” along with natural ingredients. When having sensitive skin you need to be careful that you are using quality products without harsh chemical ingredients which can give even the best skin a hard time. Keep it basic girls

Sin 3: Suns Out Buns Out

Well, you can keep your buns out, but make sure you apply suncream!!! We all hate applying suncream and it’s just one of those things you don’t want to do. But if you have sensitive skin this is super important. The harsh sun will make your sensitive skin suffer so you want to find a good quality suncream that contain minerals such as zinc oxide and titanium oxide, these will irritate your skin less than other chemicals found in suncream, stick with SPF 30 minimum.

Dry Skin

Sin 1: Using Hot Water.

Although we all love hot showers and baths, it’s definitely adding to your dry skin problem! Hot water will take away your skins natural oils and ultimately dry your skin further!

Avoid this by taking luke-warm showers and baths, when showering try to keep them under 10 minutes to avoid drying out afterwards. When taking baths try using some natural essential oils to keep your skin moisturized and protected. Try using oils that have specifically been designed to help dry skin as these have proven to increase levels of moisturization.

Sin 2: Grabbing The Wrong Soap!

Test whether your soap foams or lathers to a high amount, if it does, then stop using it! Soaps that do this will contain a surfactant which is the same thing that’s in your dish washing liquid. Surfactants have a strong de-greasing effect which cleans very well, however it will remove more of the essential oils than necessary, leaving you with dryer skin.

Look out for natural gentle cleansing products which do not contain surfactants. These will leave your essential oils intact, and your skin more moisturized.

Sin 3: Not Moisturising Quickly!

As soon as you get out of the shower or bath (while still wet/damp) you should be lathering up to lock in as much moisture as possible, also maintaining your skin's natural barrier. Leaving, or heaven forbid forgetting to moisturize will result in much drier skin than necessary

Moisturizing throughout the day is also a good idea, keeping up your skins natural barrier will help drastically in the long run to improve the overall health of your skin.

Oily Skin

Sin 1: Again MOISTURISING

Although this is going to sound like the wrong advice, its not. You STILL need to moisturise your skin even if you have “oily” skin. It’s very easy to think that because you have naturally oily skin, you do not need to moisturise #na

Your skin can actually “dry” out without you knowing, and before you do know, your skin has already overcompensated and produced a tonne of oil for that “dry” skin, and now you’re shining bright like a diamond…

Try looking out for oil-free and non-comedogenic moisturisers. Getting a moisturiser without these two things will protect you from adding greasy products to your skin as well as preventing your pores getting blocked, avoiding a breakout.

Sin 2: Powder Bae

Better off than in. Avoid using powder if you have a moment of oily skin, instead, reach for some blotting papers, these will get rid and take off the excess oil instead of keeping it in which powder will do.

Sin 3: Scrubbing Crazy

It’s common to think that because you have oily skin you need to scrub like mad to remove it all. This will in fact only make your skin produce more oil, scrubbing with harsh products will strip away the essential oils in your skin leaving it very dry, shortly after your body will overproduce oil to compensate for the lack of essential oils.
